About Us

The California Carbon Capture Coalition is the state’s leading business and labor organization working to make carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS) a key element of California’s climate solutions. We support California’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement, and in cost-effective ways that drive technology and create and maintain high quality jobs and robust economic growth in the state.

CCUS in California

Meeting California’s ambitious climate goals will require a host of technology solutions, including CCUS. Current CCUS technologies are ready to go and can be deployed quickly and economically to start driving down greenhouse gas emissions. Multiple CCUS projects are currently operating successfully across the globe. The Biden Administration has fully committed to “accelerating the responsible development and deployment of CCUS to make it a widely available, increasingly cost-effective, and rapidly scalable climate solution across all industrial sectors.” To remain a climate leader, California needs to move quickly to create a comprehensive state policy framework that allows Californians to benefit from these cutting-edge climate action technologies.

California has unparalleled geologic and technological resources to reap the benefits of CCUS. Our state is home to the largest storage potential in the country, we have dozens of industrial and business leaders with the expertise and commitment to quickly deploy CCUS, and we have a skilled workforce that can support and benefit from rapid action to bring CCUS projects online.

To bring these ready-to-go solutions to reality, California needs to move quickly to implement a comprehensive policy, regulatory and economic framework for CCUS.

The Coalition is committed to working with all policymakers and stakeholders interested in meaningful climate action to make CCUS part of California’s climate solution.
